Morning routine...
Wake up, hopefully not too late, become clean. Lately I’ve been making myself a (decaf) coffee with some brown sugar & eating homemade granola with yogurt. I get dressed very quickly.. my clothes are all roughly interchangeable. After or during breakfast I’ll check what’s happened on the internet since last night

Wardrobe staples...
Wool sweaters, blazers, comfortable knitted anything- skirts, dresses, pants- relaxed trousers, oxfords (shoes & shirts), and recently leather boots that I can get wet & dirty

Designer/s you love...
The ladies of Apiece Apart, Alber Elbaz, YSL. Mostly I buy weirdo handmade clothing, if not vintage from thrift stores. I admire makers of warm sweaters quite a bit

Current obsession/s...
Reuable household items. Dryer balls, tissues, cleaning towels, cotton balls. Very useful, often beautiful; easy & sort of satisfying to take care of, rather than throw out constantly. Bamboo & wool are great materials for these things.

Home improvement/s...
Retiling kitchen floor. Handmade wood stair railing & good size work table, each from woodworkers in Seattle. Linen instead of cotton in bathroom & kitchen, maybe linen sheets one day.. I’d like to improve my mixing bowl situation with large Akiko Graham bowls, that'd be nice..

Favorite find/s...
I have a few: long staple mohair tufted Navajo rug from New Mexico, recently a vintage wool fisherman cardigan with a beautiful braided belt (photographed above), modern woven chair, Navajo Churro sheepskins from a man named Chuck whose wares I happened upon online

Most recent recipe...
Rather than recent, my very favorite is a spicy sausage & vegetable soup I found out about last year. It is very delicious, and perfect in the winter, along with some nice bread

Beauty product/s...
Handmade lanolin & goat milk soap, Blue Lagoon Silica Mud Mask, Weleda sage deodorant & rosemary hair oil.. blush everyday, mascara some days

Daily reading...
David Budbill for poetry & Halldor Laxness for fiction lately, a nice magazine like The Gentlewoman or The Travel Almanac when available. I like biographies of artists or politicians, should find a new one soon...

I don’t think they’re secret, but maybe less frequented.. El Gallito for a relaxed, cheesy meal; De Medici Ming for beautiful papers, cards & stationery

We've rerouted our weekends since the Sunday farmers market no longer happens in our neighborhood.

Our new routine is to visit the University District farmers market,

eat the most delicious naan with red lentil dahl from a stand there,
touch and fantasize about all the fibers at Weaving Works,

flip through magazines at Bulldog News,

search for out-of-print textile books at Magus,

stop by the Burke Museum,

and grab a tiny espresso at Cafe Allegro.

Take the bus back mid-afternoon to start supper/clean house/listen to music/read

Inspired by this Chez Panisse Menu cookbook lately.

I like it because it's more of an inspirational cookbook than a cookbook with recipes...

The chapters read like this: inspirations and adaptations, seasonal menus, menus for special occasions, themes and variations, and uncomplicated menus.

That's my cuppa tea.

We are planning a holiday soiree at our house and I am thinking of decorating the table with the following:

Visited Jered Nelson's studio in Berkeley to pull some ceramics for a special project I was working on.

It's the most calming space: lots of warm light, music humming in the back,

and endless pieces of beautiful ceramics made from local California clay.

He is an incredible potter with a very impressive resume.

Looking forward to sharing more images of his work soon!

I found these little plates in his "seconds" room to take home.

We took Michael Pollan's good advice of eating off smaller plates–

it honestly makes such a huge difference in how much you eat!

I brought homemade chai, which I discovered is great with coconut milk because I don't like to use sugar and Alyson made amazing lemon bars.

Sunday brunch:

Saffron-herb omelettes with melted greens and goat cheese

We took the recipe from Yotam Ottolenghi's Plenty book and altered it a bit. We added saffron directly to the egg/cream mixture instead of cooking potatoes in it and then dumping it out (!) and served it with wilted greens and goat cheese instead of stuffing it with potatoes and yogurt, which made it much easier to handle.

Delicious!

We saw a screening of it at The Nordic Heritage Museum, where there is a great show up right now.

I loved this scene especially because it looked like she was wearing one of my pieces!

It reminded me of my very first collection of felted garments I did for my final project in Germany–

very animalistic :)

It answered questions I have always had, but just didn't know it.

which is very comprehensive, yet simple.
